About this website

I developed this website for fun.  You can subscribe and your email will never, ever be distributed to very annoying commercial growers.   I may try selling plants over the internet, but this site will definitely not be used for this purpose.

I live in South Florida.   This website contains pictures from my garden.   I’ve enjoyed collecting unusual plants and showing them off to my friends.   At this point, my collection is getting so big, that I’m losing track of some of the names of my plants.  So, this WordPress blog will help me remember what I’ve got planted out back.

I’m a big collector of plants but a lousy landscaper.  My garden is cluttered.  Even if I removed half my plants, it would still be cluttered.  C’est la vie.

Many of  the plants on this website are not the normal batch of plants found at large retail stores which I won’t name.  Oh what the heck,  I mean Home Depot.

A lot of my plants have been bought at plant shows.   Most of all, I enjoy the South Florida Palm Society plant sales, where growers sell some truly spectacular palms and give sage advice to us amateurs.

I belong to this society and I enjoy their programs and outings.  It was hoped that in 2020 the society would resume palm sales, but Covid-19 may mean postponement to 2021.

Other great plant shows include the Redland Orchid Festival (never miss this one),  Fairchild Botanic Tropical Garden and the Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach.

There are a few really super nurseries, and growers of exotic plants in our area.  I never miss Jeff Searle plant sales in SW Ranches, Broward County or Steve Stern palm sales in the Redlands.  The Redland Orchid sale is a must.  Gardino nursery is way up in Dania, but he seems always to be selling some of his collection at the various plant sales.  I particularly like the unusual Kaempferia and Globbas.

Happy gardening,

David Lord
