Kaempferia pulchra ‘Variegata’ (Variegated Kaempferia)

Just updated the list of plant shows, with the orchid sale at Fairchild, next weekend, Equity Garden Club sale in Wilton Manors, Bromeliad auction in Vero Beach. So there’s a lot going on.

Just bought this Kaempferia at the International Aroid Society sale in Miami. So far it is happy in my wet, shaddy ginger garden. I am hoping it will develop the orange-red color that I’ve seen in many photos. It will drop in the winter, and hopefully will be coming up with all the Satin Checks in the spring. There’s a similar one, colored orange that’s rare and pretty pricey. It is native to SE Asia.

The others Kaempferias are doing well, as they thrive in wet, humid conditions. The K. augustifolia ‘Lao Silver Stripe’ has lost its really pretty purple and white flowers, but is spreading out real nicely.

The K. pulchra ‘Shazam’ is also doing well.

So far, so good. Check out the plant shows.

Happy Gardening,

Dave
