Hedychiums belong to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) and can be grown in USDA zones 8 to 10. Some websites go a bit further, with USDA zones 7 to 11. Where I live, in South Miami, is generally zone 10b. I think the cultivar is ‘Palani’ sold at Gingerwood Nursery. It is a summer to fall bloomer. Best grown in partial shade with frequent watering. The flowers don’t last long (couple weeks) and by the time I took this picture, some of the lower flowers were dropping.
I also have a H. coccineum ‘Disney’ which has much more orangish flowers. I will add this to the website when it flowers, probably next year.
The image below is a Hedychium gardenianum from a botanical garden located in Stuttgart, Germany and grown in an glass greenhouse. Probably grows best in more northern parts of Florida.

The common name “Hedychium Ginger Lily” is given to many Hedychiums, so it really isn’t particularly useful. Plus, calling them lilies will not win friends with horticulturists.
I have posted previously the Hedychium hybrid ‘Dr. Moy’ in the header to South Florida plant sales. It is very pretty and grows well in South Florida in sheltered areas.
Many nurseries sell H. coronarium called butterfly ginger or white ginger which grows very rapidly in the wet summer months. I have many growing in my backyard, and have to thin them out, now with a good steak knife. As we are in late September, the season is just about over.
I have updated the list of plant sales this fall. This weekend (Sep 24-25) Fairchild will host the International Aroid Show, full of difficult to find aroids. And just announced is the South Florida Palm Society sale on Nov 19-20. I was a vendor there last year, and I might sell there again, so yes, I am a bit biased.
Happy gardening,
Dave
