Curcuma hybrid ‘Ban Rai Red’

This Curcuma hybrid was developed by crossing C. aurantiaca and C. petiolata, in at a breeding program at Chiang Mai University, Thailand according to Gingerwood nursery. The Curcuma’s are all popping up in the garden, with some surprises, as I can’t remember all their locations.

The very top part is this beautiful purple color. I have them in partial shade for most of the day. They can tolerate some hours of sun.

The Hedychiums and Kaempferias have either emerged from their winter’s sleep, or soon will in the next week or so. The torch gingers are blooming as well. The Cornukaempferia has yet to participate, maybe it will pop up in July.

The blood lilies (no relationship to the gingers) are everywhere. Apparently they also like the soggy June weather.

Happy Gardening,

Dave
